Hawkesbury downs Cornwall in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Peter Angelopoulos gave the Hawkesbury Hawks a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Cornwall Colts when he scored 4:24 into the extra period.

Hawkesbury came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Hawks trailed 4-2 after a power play goal by Cornwall's Tristen Elie at 9:13 in the second period. Hawkesbury knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Hunter Racine at 5:21 in the fourth period.

The Hawks got the win behind a great game by Racine, who had two goals and one assist. Racine scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:32 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Cornwall. Hawkesbury had taken the advantage when the Colts' Jackson Parker got sent off for high sticking. Paul Vella provided the assist. Racine's next tally on the power play made the score 5-5 with 14:39 left in overtime.

Cornwall was unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hawkesbury eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The Hawks' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Colts' power play unit.

Hawkesbury also got points from Vella, who also registered one goal and one assist and Jonathan Cyr, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Alex Anderson also scored for Hawkesbury. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Ross Mandigo, who had one and CJ Stubbs and Phil Johansson, who each chipped in two.

Cornwall forced Hawkesbury goalie Gunner Rivers to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. Penalties took their toll on the Colts, as their penalty kill unit let in two power play goals.

Cornwall additionally got points from Elie, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Cornwall also had goals scored by Grant Cooper, Marly Quince, and Nick Lalonde, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Kevin Hope, who had two and Lawson MacDonald, Keegan Mulhearn, Tanner Spink, and Jeremy McFarlane, who contributed one each.

Gunner Rivers made 42 saves for the Hawks on 46 shots. Hawkesbury ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For the Hawks, Rory Gagnon was ejected from the game. Denny Dubblestyne rejected 30 shots on goal for Cornwall. The Colts ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Cornwall ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Quince was ejected from the game.
