Kemptville uses fast start to beat Cumberland, 10-3Navan Memorial Centre Sun, Nov 09, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
A five-goal first period deficit cost the Cumberland Grads, which could not recover and fell to the Kemptville 73s, 10-3. Jason Tackett had five goals to lead Kemptville to victory. Tackett's first goal came 44 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 7:35 into the first, at 19:38 into the first, at 1:56 into the third, and at 14:48 into the third. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:09 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The 73s forced Cumberland's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 45 shots and forcing 35 saves. Kevin Gollmer made 32 stops and Paul Leger made three. Kemptville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Cumberland power plays. The 73s bested their season scoring average. Kemptville has scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign. Kemptville also got points from Dean Galasso, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Tyson Kirkby also scored for Kemptville. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Rob Grant, who had three, Owen Guy and Shawn Cameron, who contributed one each, Cameron Russell, Matt Tugnutt, and Alex Row, who each chipped in two, and Cody Hendsbee and Erik Brown, who contributed four each. The Grads forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game Cumberland had been spending in the box. The Grads' offense rang up 37 shots on the 73s' net. Cumberland was helped by Peter Sigouin, who had one goal. Sigouin scored short handed 11:54 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Kemptville. The Grads found themselves down a man on Ted McCabe's cross checking. Cumberland also got a goal from Travis Douglas as well. More assists for Cumberland came via Bobby Williams, Matthew Morin, and Martin Frechette, who each chipped in one. Jacob Tugnutt made 34 saves for Kemptville on 37 shots. The 73s totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. Kemptville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Galasso was ejected from the game. For Cumberland, Morin was ejected from the game.
