Ottawa rolls over Cumberland, 8-0

The Ottawa Senators had a six-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-0 win over the Cumberland Grads.

Ottawa was sparked by Derek Varrin, who had one goal. Varrin scored 9:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ottawa. Brendan Valko provided the assist.

The Senators forced Cumberland's netminders to work between the pipes, racking up 40 shots and forcing 32 saves. Paul Leger made 16 stops and Kevin Gollmer made 16. Ottawa stifled the Grads' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Senators' defense was surprisingly good. Ottawa allows 2.3 goals per game. The Senators' goal total was higher than their season average. Ottawa has scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Ottawa additionally got points from Robert Michel, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Charles Corriveau, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Carl Faucher, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Ottawa included Shawn Lynch, who had two and Connor Bebb and Daniel Sarracco, who each put in one. More assists for Ottawa came via Sean Rappleyea, Johnathan Kovacevic, and Joey Champigny, who each chipped in one and Bruno Cheff and Zach Car, who contributed two each.

Cumberland's offense operated below its season average. The Grads put an average of 2.4 pucks into the net per game.

Alexandre Savard-Belanger recorded 21 saves for the Senators. Ottawa incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Cumberland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
