Huge game by Doef boosts Smiths Falls over Pembroke, 6-3

Behind a great game by Neil Doef, who had two goals and two assists, the Smiths Falls Bears defeated the Pembroke Lumber Kings, 6-3.

Doef found the back of the net short handed 10:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls and again while 10:20 into the third to make the score 5-3 Smiths Falls.

Pembroke's power play was ineffective against Smiths Falls' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:13 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Bears forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 13 minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Smiths Falls surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bears bested their season scoring average. Smiths Falls has scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. Team could not crack the Lumber Kings' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Smiths Falls also got points from Noah Gurr, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Cole Busschaert, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Ryan Duhaime and Josh Leblanc, who scored one goal each. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Chris MacMillan, who had two and Jared Henry, Sebastien Barrette, Taylor Henry, and Michael McKenney, who each chipped in one.

Pembroke racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Lumber Kings had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Pembroke kept the Bears' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Pinios made 35 saves on 38 shots.

The Lumber Kings were helped by Anthony Nellis, who registered one goal. Nellis scored 3:21 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Alexandre Boivin picked up the assist. Others who scored for Pembroke included Jesse Blais and Zachary Borsoi, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Colton Keuhl, Dylan Chase, Nolan Redler, and Liam Biard, who contributed one each.

Smiths Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Craig Cross was ejected from the game. Connor Hughes took the loss and made 16 saves before being replaced by Joel Horodziejczyk who made two saves. For Pembroke, Hudson Michaelis was ejected from the game.
