Smiths Falls survives Nepean comeback, wins 3-2

The Nepean Raiders tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Smiths Falls Bears would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Kevin Groulx put Smiths Falls up 3-1 in the second period, but Nepean pulled to within one on Brandon Belding's tally 5:23 into the third period.

Neil Doef had one goal and two assists to lead the Bears. Doef scored on the power play 8:21 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A tripping penalty on Shane Riddell had put Smiths Falls on the power play. Nicolas Coates picked up the assist.

Smiths Falls additionally got points from Groulx, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Coates, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Chris MacMillan and Cole Busschaert, who each chipped in one.

The Raiders forced the Bears goalie Michael Pinios to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Broydon Stufko also scored for Nepean. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Cody Calcagno, Corey Tam, Diego Gagnon, and Brandon Watt, who contributed one each.

Pinios rejected 41 shots on goal for Smiths Falls. The Bears incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Francis Marotte made 27 saves for Nepean on 30 shots. The Raiders incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
