Cumberland survives Gloucester comeback, wins 6-4Earl Armstrong Arena Mon, Oct 13, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Gloucester Rangers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Cumberland Grads held on for a 6-4 victory. Cumberland took a 6-3 lead during the third period, only to have Gloucester storm back on a Ryan Kuffner goal 13:50 into the third period to pull to two goals down. Nicolas Mattinen had one goal and two assists to lead the Grads. Mattinen scored on the power play 11:13 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Cumberland. Cumberland earned a power play opportunity when Alex Bilodeau was put in the box for unsportsmanlike conduct. Cameron Roth picked up the assist. The Grads bested their season scoring average. This season, Cumberland averages 2.4 goals per contest. Cumberland additionally got points from Travis Douglas, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Matthew Morin, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Martin Frechette, who also registered one goal and one assist. Cumberland also got a goal from Brandon Zullo as well. More assists for Cumberland came via Reid Murphy, Tyler Pancel, and Riley Hennigar, who contributed one each. The Rangers forced the Grads goalie Paul Leger to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Gloucester was helped by Matt Foget, who finished with one goal and two assists. Foget scored on the power play 16:08 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Rangers had gotten the advantage when Cumberland's Ted McCabe was sent off for boarding. Zackhary Salloum assisted on the tally. Gloucester also got points from Kuffner, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Gloucester also had goals scored by Branden Makara and Jaren Burke, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Antonio Micucci, Joey Fallon, and Adam Beveridge, who each chipped in one. The Grads' Leger stopped 31 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Cumberland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Doug Johnston rejected 24 shots on goal for Gloucester. The Rangers totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Gloucester ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Adams was ejected from the game.
