Groulx's hat trick boosts Smiths Falls over Kemptville, 8-6

Kevin Groulx lifted the Smiths Falls Bears to an 8-6 victory with a hat trick against the Kemptville 73s.

Groulx got on the scoresheet 14:49 into the first period. He then added goals at 3:53 into the second and at 12:49 into the second.

Smiths Falls forced Kemptville's goaltenders to work all game long, firing 31 shots and forcing 23 saves. Nicholas Hodgins made 14 stops and Jacob Tugnutt made nine. The Bears managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Smiths Falls ended up below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bears surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Smiths Falls averages 3.0 goals per game. The Bears capitalized on the 73s' penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

Smiths Falls also got points from Ryan Duhaime, who also registered one goal and three assists, Neil Doef, who also racked up two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, and Cole Busschaert, who also had one goal and three assists. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Jared Henry as well. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Karson McCartney, who had one and Chris MacMillan, who had three.

Kemptville forced Smiths Falls' goalies to work in net, ripping 38 shots and forcing 32 saves. Cole Skinner made 18 stops and Michael Pinios made 14. The 73s bested their season scoring average. This season, Kemptville averages 3.8 goals per contest. The 73s' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Kemptville was helped by Shawn Cameron, who tallied one goal. Cameron scored 15:01 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Smiths Falls. Brandon Cole assisted on the tally. Kemptville additionally got points from Cameron Russell, who also registered one goal and one assist and Cole, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Kemptville also had goals scored by Tyson Kirkby, Aaron Hickie, and Olivier Chabot, who scored one goal each.
