Ottawa beats Brockville 8-3 as Champigny gets hat trick

A hat trick by Joey Champigny was the highlight in Senators' 8-3 win against the Brockville Braves.

Champigny's first goal came 14:00 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:57 into the second and at 10:21 into the second.

The Ottawa Senators forced Braves' goaltenders to work without much rest, finishing with 32 shots and forcing 24 saves. David Poirier made nine stops and Bo Taylor made 15. Ottawa outdid its season average for goals scored. The Senators average 3.7 goals per game.

Ottawa also got points from Jim Pearson, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Ottawa included Matthew Cruickshank, Connor Bebb, Isaac Anderson, and Carl Faucher, who each put in one. More assists for Ottawa came via Sean Rappleyea, Derek Varrin, Johnathan Kovacevic, Zach Car, and Cody Bean, who each chipped in one and Robert Michel and Shawn Lynch, who contributed three each.

Brockville stifled Ottawa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Braves were led by Liam Folkes, who registered one goal and two assists. Folkes scored 9:34 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Ottawa. Andrew Peski picked up the assist. Brockville also had goals scored by Owen Gill and Brett Van Stralen, who scored one goal each. In addition, Brockville received assists from Landon Gareau, Jack Billings, and Jack Patterson, who each chipped in one.

The Senators' Alexandre Savard-Belanger stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Ottawa totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play. For the Senators, Thomas Crevier was ejected from the game. Brockville totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Braves ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Van Stralen was ejected from the game.
