Hawkesbury blows out Kemptville, 5-2

The Hawkesbury Hawks had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Kemptville 73s.

Hawkesbury's penalty kill excelled, as the Hawks gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Hawkesbury was sparked by Rory Gagnon, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Gagnon scored 13:39 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Hawkesbury. CJ Stubbs picked up the assist.

The Hawks forced Kemptville goalie Nicholas Hodgins to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Hawkesbury also got points from Jonathan Cyr, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Alex Anderson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury were Hamilton Whyte, Jason Brochu, Ross Mandigo, Brandon Barillaro, Tristan Perreault-Gagnon, Jonathan Tecce, and David Cyr, who each chipped in one.

The 73s' offense rang up 38 shots on Hawkesbury's net.

Kemptville was helped by Owen Guy, who registered one goal. Guy scored on the power play 4:28 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury. An interference penalty on Mandigo had put the 73s on the power play. Cody Hendsbee provided the assist. Quinn Wichers also scored for Kemptville. More assists for Kemptville came via Cameron Russell, Brandon Cole, and Alex Row, who contributed one each.

Gunner Rivers rejected 36 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hawkesbury incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Anderson was ejected from the game. Nicholas Hodgins made 38 saves for Kemptville on 43 shots. The 73s incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Kemptville, Jake Gaudet was ejected from the game.
