Tackett lifts Pembroke over Smiths Falls, 6-2

The Pembroke Lumber Kings relied on the scoring touch of Jason Tackett, who netted two goals, to beat the Smiths Falls Bears, 6-2.

Tackett scored at 1:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke and again while 4:04 into the second to make the score 2-1 Pembroke.

Pembroke pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 24 penalty minutes.

The Lumber Kings found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Pembroke averages 3.9 goals per contest.

Pembroke also got points from Connor Rankin, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Justin Felhaber, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Liam Biard, who also had one goal and one assist. Hudson Michaelis also scored for Pembroke. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Felix Chamberland, who had two and Adam Dauda, Anthony Nellis, Craig Cross, and Alexandre Boivin, who contributed one each.

Smiths Falls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lumber Kings to score on any of their three power plays.

The Bears were led by Nicolas Coates, who racked up one goal. Coates scored 12:14 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brandon Lesway picked up the assist. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Michael McKenney as well. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Jared Henry, Chris MacMillan, and Cole Busschaert, who each chipped in one.

Sean Green rejected 24 shots on goal for Pembroke. Smiths Falls' Michael Pinios stopped 24 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Bears incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
