Huge game by Folkes boosts Brockville over Cumberland, 5-2Brockville Memorial Centre Fri, Sep 26, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brockville Braves' Liam Folkes had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 5-2 win over the Cumberland Grads. Folkes scored at 9:25 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Brockville and again while 18:16 into the third to make the score 4-1 Brockville.Brockville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cumberland to score on any of its three power plays. Brockville also got a goal from Owen Gill as well. More assists for Brockville came via Eric Israel, who had one and Landon Gareau, Brett Van Stralen, and Jack Billings, who contributed two each. The Grads managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Cumberland wound up below its season average of 11.0 penalty minutes per game. The Braves were unable to stop the Grads from sending pucks towards the net, and Cumberland eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Grads were helped by Riley Hennigar, who racked up one goal. Hennigar scored 18:30 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Brockville. Brandon Zullo assisted on the tally. Travis Douglas also scored for Cumberland. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Matt Meininger, Tyler Barban, and Ted McCabe, who each chipped in one. Brockville's David Poirier stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Braves incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities. Paul Leger recorded 22 saves for Cumberland.
