Ottawa's Varrin deadly on offense in 5-1 win against Pembroke

Behind a great game by Derek Varrin, who had two goals, the Ottawa Senators defeated the Pembroke Lumber Kings, 5-1.

Varrin found the back of the net 10:55 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa and again while 9:59 into the third to make the score 3-0 Ottawa.

Pembroke was unable to stop Ottawa from sending pucks towards the net, and the Senators eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Ottawa bested its season scoring average. This season, the Senators average 2.9 goals per contest.

Ottawa also got points from Joey Champigny, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ottawa also had goals scored by Isaac Anderson and Chandler Watson, who scored one goal each. More assists for Ottawa came via Robert Michel, who had two and Matthew Cruickshank, Connor Bebb, and Brendan Valko, who contributed one each.

The Lumber Kings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Pembroke could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Lumber Kings average 3.9 goals per game.

Pembroke was led by Adam Dauda, who scored the team's only goal. Dauda scored on the power play 12:49 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Ottawa. A tripping penalty on Valko had put the Lumber Kings on the power play. Alexandre Boivin assisted on the tally.

Alexandre Savard-Belanger rejected 24 shots on goal for Ottawa. The Senators incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Sean Green recorded 26 saves for Pembroke. The Lumber Kings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
