Kemptville blows out Hawkesbury, 7-1North Grenville Municipal 1 Tue, Sep 23, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kemptville 73s were firing on all cylinders against the Hawkesbury Hawks, and when the final buzzer sounded 73s emerged with a 7-1 win. Hawkesbury was stymied by Kemptville's netminder Jacob Tugnutt, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. The solid play of Tugnutt will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.52. The 73s pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 25 penalty minutes. Kemptville forced Hawks' goalies to work in net, firing 41 shots and forcing 34 saves. Daniel Potter made 33 stops and Gunner Rivers made one. The 73s excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Kemptville outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the 73s average 3.8 goals per contest. Kemptville was helped by Jake Gaudet, who tallied one goal and one assist. Gaudet scored 9:40 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Kemptville. Aaron Hickie provided the assist. Kemptville also got points from Cody Hendsbee, who also had one goal and one assist, Hickie, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Shawn Cameron, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Matt Tugnutt also scored for Kemptville. More assists for Kemptville came via Tyler Young, who had one and Owen Guy and Daniel Monk, who each chipped in two. The Hawks were held below their usual level of production. Hawkesbury puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. The Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. Hawkesbury was led by Jason Brochu, who scored the team's only goal. Brochu scored 11:56 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kemptville. Nicholas Centauro assisted on the tally. The 73s registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For Kemptville, Hendsbee was ejected from the game.
