Hawkesbury squeaks by Cumberland, 4-2Navan Memorial Centre Sun, Sep 21, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Hawkesbury Hawks and the Cumberland Grads was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Hawkesbury emerged with a 4-2 win. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Ross Mandigo's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Mandigo was all over the ice for the Hawks, as he finished with two goals in the win. Hawkesbury excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Cumberland was unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hawkesbury eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Hunter Racine as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury were Damien Charette and Jonathan Tecce, who contributed one each and Jason Brochu and Phil Johansson, who each chipped in two. The Grads were helped by Martin Frechette, who grabbed one goal. Frechette scored 19:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Matthew Morin picked up the assist. Cumberland additionally got points from Morin, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Bobby Williams, Travis Douglas, and Brandon Zullo, who contributed one each. Gunner Rivers made 21 saves for the Hawks on 23 shots. Hawkesbury incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Cumberland's Kevin Gollmer stopped 38 shots out of the 41 that he faced. The Grads incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
