Nepean rides Hertz to victory over Gloucester, 7-1Earl Armstrong Arena Fri, Sep 19, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Leif Hertz helped the Nepean Raiders defeat the Gloucester Rangers, 7-1. Nepean was paced by Tristan Perreault-Gagnon, who registered one goal. Perreault-Gagnon scored on the power play 7:06 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Nepean. The Raiders had gotten the advantage when Gloucester's Jared Leslie was sent off for hooking. Adel Zivojevic provided the assist. Nepean forced the Rangers' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 41 shots and forcing 34 saves. David Richer made 24 stops and Doug Johnston made 10. The Raiders excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Nepean surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Raiders have scored at the pace of 3.6 goals per game during the current campaign. Nepean additionally got points from Broydon Stufko, who also had one goal and one assist, Zivojevic, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Mac MacSorley, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Nepean included Cody Calcagno, Jack Kilrea, and Brandon Belding, who each put in one. More assists for Nepean came via Jody Sullivan, Brandon Watt, Luke McCaw, Dakota Ford, and William White, who contributed one each and Corey Tam and Josh Zizek, who each chipped in two. Gloucester was held below its usual level of production. The Rangers put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. Nepean was unable to stop Gloucester from sending pucks towards the net, and the Rangers eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Gloucester was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The Rangers were led by Alex Bilodeau, who scored the team's only goal. Bilodeau scored 3:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Gloucester. Adam Beveridge picked up the assist. Hertz recorded 30 saves for the Raiders. Nepean totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. For the Raiders, Belding was ejected from the game. For Gloucester, Lucas Zwaagstra and Cameron Hughes were ejected from the contest.
