Carleton Place uses shootout to best Pembroke, 5-4 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Pembroke Lumber Kings in a shootout 5-4 (3-2 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Pembroke's shootout goals were scored by Adam Dauda and Anthony Nellis. Carleton Place also got shootout goals from Wesley Baker and Stephen Baylis.

The Canadians overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Carleton Place was down 4-3 after a goal by the Lumber Kings' Dauda at 14:01 in the third period. The Canadians tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Adam Lloyd at 19:15 in the third period.

Carleton Place stifled Pembroke's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Canadians forced the Lumber Kings goalie Joel Horodziejczyk to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Carleton Place additionally got points from Baker, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Baylis, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Willie Brooks, Alex Vala, Brett Garvey, and Trent Shore, who each chipped in one.

Pembroke excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Lumber Kings' offense rang up 33 shots on Carleton Place's net.

Pembroke was helped by Jason Tackett, who finished with two goals and one assist. Tackett scored the first of his two goals at 5:23 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Alexandre Boivin provided the assist. Tackett's next tally made the score 3-3 with 9:34 left in the third period. Boivin picked up the assist. Pembroke also got points from Boivin, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Pembroke came via Colton Keuhl and Felix Chamberland, who contributed one each.

The Canadians' Guillaume Therien stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Carleton Place incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Horodziejczyk rejected 33 shots on goal for the Lumber Kings. Pembroke incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
