Gloucester uses shootout to best Smiths Falls, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Gloucester Rangers defeated the Smiths Falls Bears in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. Gloucester's other shootout goal was scored by Ryan Kuffner.

The Rangers came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Gloucester was down 2-1 after a goal by Smiths Falls' Karson McCartney at 13:30 in the second period. The Rangers knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Matt Foget at 5:18 in the third period.

Gloucester excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Rangers' offense rang up 34 shots on the Bears' net.

Branden Makara also scored for Gloucester. More assists for Gloucester came via Dorian Dawson, Kuffner, Matt Adams, and Jared Leslie, who each chipped in one.

Smiths Falls stifled Gloucester's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bears kept the Rangers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Doug Johnston made 30 saves on 32 shots.

Smiths Falls also got a goal from Domenic Camastra as well. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Daniel Lombardi, who had one and Josh Leblanc, who had two.

Gloucester incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Michael Pinios made 31 saves for Smiths Falls on 33 shots. The Bears incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
