Smiths Falls rides Pinios to victory over Kanata, 2-1Kanata Recreational Complex Thu, Sep 04, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Michael Pinios helped the Smiths Falls Bears defeat the Kanata Stallions, 2-1. Smiths Falls' penalty kill excelled, as the Bears gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. Smiths Falls was sparked by Brandon Lesway, who registered one goal. Lesway scored on the power play 11:17 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Smiths Falls. The Bears had gained a power play chance when Johnny Kyte was whistled for high sticking. Neil Doef picked up the assist. Smiths Falls stifled Kanata's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Darius Gibson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Ean Mendenszoon and Jared Henry, who each chipped in one. The Stallions were led by Arik Bretton, who scored the team's only goal. Bretton scored 8:01 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Bryce Biller provided the assist. The Bears' Pinios stopped 28 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Smiths Falls incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Kanata's starting goalie, Brian Wilson, made nine saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Cole Skinner, who stopped 14 shots. The Stallions incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
