Carleton Place uses shootout to best Cornwall, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Cornwall Colts in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Cornwall's shootout goal was scored by Peter Angelopoulos. In addition to the clincher, Carleton Place got a shootout goal from Wesley Baker.

The Canadians were sparked by Bryce VanHorn, who finished with one goal. VanHorn scored 2:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place. Tyson Stewart picked up the assist.

In the losing effort, the Colts were led by Angelopoulos, who grabbed two goals. Angelopoulos scored the first of his two goals at 3:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place. Marly Quince provided the assist. Angelopoulos' next tally made the score 2-2 with 58 seconds left in the second period. Kevin Hope picked up the assist.

Carleton Place managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Canadians wound up below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game.

Carleton Place also got a goal from Baker as well. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Adam Lloyd, who had one.

Cornwall managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Colts finished below its season average of 7.0 penalty minutes per game. Cornwall forced Carleton Place goalie Guillaume Therien to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Therien recorded 38 saves for the Canadians. Carleton Place registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. The Colts' Denny Dubblestyne stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Cornwall registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
