Hawkesbury holds on for 5-3 win against Nepean

The Nepean Raiders tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Hawkesbury Hawks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

Hawkesbury took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Nepean storm back on a Mac MacSorley goal 19:22 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

Hamilton Whyte was all over the ice for the Hawks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Whyte scored the first of his two goals at 12:17 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury. Rory Gagnon provided the assist. Whyte's next tally made the score 4-2 Hawkesbury with 6:50 left in the third period. Hawkesbury had gained a power play chance when Dakota Ford was whistled for boarding. Damien Charette assisted on the tally.

The Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Nepean power plays.

Hawkesbury also got points from Gagnon, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Jason Brochu also scored for Hawkesbury. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Nicolas Vlahos, Jonathan Tecce, Chris Harper, Phil Johansson, and Hunter Racine, who each chipped in one.

Nepean also had goals scored by Broydon Stufko and Jack Kilrea, who scored one goal each. More assists for Nepean came via Chad Malinowski, Diego Gagnon, Luke McCaw, William White, and Tristan Perreault-Gagnon, who contributed one each.

Daniel Potter made 19 saves for Hawkesbury on 22 shots. The Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Leif Hertz recorded 23 saves for the Raiders. Nepean incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
