Pembroke downs Hawkesbury in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Pembroke Lumber Kings' Anthony Nellis scored 19 seconds into overtime to beat the Hawkesbury Hawks, 5-4 (OT).

Pembroke came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Lumber Kings trailed 3-1 after a power play goal by Hawkesbury's Phil Johansson at 12:25 in the second period. Pembroke knotted things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Brett du Puy at 10:21 in the third period.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:56 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Lumber Kings were relatively well disciplined in the game, receiving only seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Pembroke fell short of the 25.0 minutes average penalties per game. The Lumber Kings forced the Hawks goalie Daniel Potter to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Pembroke also got points from du Puy, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Adam Dauda, who also racked up one goal and three assists. More assists for Pembroke came via Dylan Chase, who had one and Felix Chamberland, who had four.

Hawkesbury's offense rang up 34 shots on Pembroke's net. The Hawks found themselves short handed often, totaling 19 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Hawkesbury was helped by Jason Brochu, who registered two goals. Brochu scored the first of his two goals at 6:22 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Ross Mandigo picked up the assist. Brochu's next tally made the score 2-1 Hawkesbury with 10:53 left in the second period. Mandigo provided the assist. Jonathan Tecce also scored for Hawkesbury. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury were Hunter Racine, who had two and Damien Charette and Chris Harper, who each chipped in one.

The Lumber Kings' Joel Horodziejczyk stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Pembroke ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hudson Michaelis was ejected from the game. Potter rejected 36 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hawkesbury registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Hawks, Charette was ejected from the game.
