Kemptville wins tough contest against Gloucester, 5-3

The Kemptville 73s gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Gloucester Rangers.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Justin Haasbeek at 55 seconds of the second period.

Kemptville found itself short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Kemptville also got points from Alex Row, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Kemptville also had goals scored by Jake Gaudet and Matt Tugnutt, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Kemptville were Owen Guy, Brandon Cole, Shawn Cameron, Daniel Monk, and Tyler Young, who each chipped in one and Dean Galasso and Jesse Blais, who contributed two each.

Gloucester was led by Matt Foget, who tallied two goals and one assist. Foget scored the first of his two goals at 14:15 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Gloucester. Ryan Kuffner assisted on the tally. Foget's next tally made the score 4-3 Kemptville with 2:02 left in the second period. The Rangers had taken the advantage when the 73s' Guy got sent off for slashing. Jared Leslie picked up the assist. Gloucester additionally got points from Kuffner, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Gloucester received assists from Adam Beveridge and Logan Blaser, who each chipped in one.

Nicholas Hodgins made 17 saves for Kemptville on 20 shots. The 73s registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Gloucester's David Richer stopped 17 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Rangers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
