Milton holds on for 6-5 win against Mississauga

The Mississauga Chargers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Milton Icehawks held on for a 6-5 victory.

Milton made the score 6-4 on a goal by Sean Walter at 4:37 in the third period, and Mississauga got as close as 6-5 when Thomas Lattavo scored 18:00 into the third period.

The Icehawks was paced on offense by Chris Cobham and Ryan Taylor, who combined for six points. Cobham finished with one goal and three assists and Taylor also added two goals.

Milton forced Chargers' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 33 shots and forcing 27 saves. Alex Lepore made 12 stops and Mitchell Heck made 15. The Icehawks stifled the Chargers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Milton surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Icehawks average 2.5 goals per game.

Milton additionally got points from Sean Perichak, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mitch Rooney also scored for Milton. More assists for Milton came via Kevin Fitzpatrick, who had two and Johnathon Schaefer, Michael Martellacci, and Brendan Doherty, who contributed one each.

Mississauga forced Milton goalie Scott Smith to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

The Chargers were helped by Stefano Alonzi, who registered two goals. Alonzi scored the first of his two goals at 6:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississauga. Lattavo picked up the assist. Alonzi's next tally made the score 3-3 with 11:05 left in the second period. Lattavo provided the assist. Mississauga also got points from Zach Sternbach, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Lattavo, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Mississauga also got a goal from Steve Mariani as well. In addition, Mississauga received assists from Joseph Molinaro, who had two and Marco Mattina, Phillip Chadder, Tyler Cooper, and Miller Hatten, who each chipped in one.

Smith rejected 40 shots on goal for the Icehawks. Milton incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mississauga incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
