St. Michaels wins tough contest against Georgetown, 6-4

The St. Michaels Buzzers and the Georgetown Raiders were evenly matched throughout their contest, but St. Michaels made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-4.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and A.J. Dorazio's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Buzzers were paced by Dorazio, who racked up one goal and one assist. Dorazio scored 14:29 into the third period to make the score 5-4 St. Michaels. Cameron Searles provided the assist.

In a losing effort, Georgetown was sparked by Anthony Marra, who registered two goals. Marra scored the first of his two goals at 6:49 into the second period to make the score 2-2. John Adams assisted on the tally. Marra's next tally made the score 4-4 with 4:42 left in the second period. Steve Hladin picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:50 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

St. Michaels' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The Buzzers had been averaging 15.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Raiders were unable to stop St. Michaels from sending pucks towards the net, and the Buzzers eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. St. Michaels surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Buzzers average 2.9 goals per game.

St. Michaels additionally got points from Ashur Elliot, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for St. Michaels included Noah Jordan, Matt Pepler, Bron Loiselle, and Cameron Wright, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for St. Michaels were Ian Edmondson, Joseph Berton, Troy Oakley, and Ryan Kruss, who each chipped in one.

Georgetown put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow St. Michaels to score on any of its three power plays. The Raiders' offense rang up 35 shots on the Buzzers' net. Georgetown's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Raiders average 2.4 goals allowed per game.

Georgetown also had goals scored by Carmine Alberga and Brendan Jacome, who each put in one. More assists for Georgetown came via Eric Eustace, who had two and Jordan Brown and Kyle Allan, who contributed one each.

George Argiropoulos recorded 31 saves for St. Michaels. The Buzzers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Pepler was ejected from the game. Jack LaFontaine made 25 saves for Georgetown on 30 shots. The Raiders totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For Georgetown, Richard Court and Allan were ejected from the contest.
