Toronto Patriots uses early goal to top Whitby, 3-1

Mitch Emerson scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Toronto Patriots Patriots held off the challenges of the Whitby Fury in a tough 3-1 win.

A goal 8:07 into the first period by Emerson proved to be the game winner, and powered Toronto Patriots to the victory. Quinn Syrydiuk picked up the assist.

Emerson had a great game for the Patriots, netting two goals.

Toronto Patriots was led by goalie Mathew Robson, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Robson will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.5.

The Patriots stifled Whitby's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Luke Carter also scored for Toronto Patriots. In addition, Toronto Patriots received assists from Niko Kovachis, Jacob Hayhurst, Marcus Rose, Nicholas Geiser, and Louis DiMatteo, who contributed one each.

The Fury put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Toronto Patriots to score on any of its seven power plays. Whitby's offense operated below its season average. The Fury average 3.5 goals per game. Whitby could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Fury were led by Nik Coric, who scored the team's only goal. Coric scored 14:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Toronto Patriots. Zach Viminitz assisted on the tally.

The Patriots incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Austin Cain recorded 27 saves for Whitby. The Fury registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
