Kingston boosted by Penta's play in net, beats Cobourg 3-1

Cobourg Community Centre    Mon, Feb 09, 2015

Matt Penta stood on his head and made 31 saves to lead the Kingston Voyageurs to a 3-1 victory over the Cobourg Cougars.

Kingston was sparked by Adam Brady, who had one goal. Brady scored on the power play 9:11 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kingston. The Voyageurs had gained a power play chance when Taylor Gauld was whistled for slashing. Alex Tonge provided the assist.

Kingston's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Cobourg power plays. Cobourg was unable to stop the Voyageurs from sending pucks towards the net, and Kingston eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Kingston also had goals scored by Alex Stothart and Matt Hoover, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Kingston were Ryan Watson, Corey Caruso, Michael Crocock, and Cole Bolton, who contributed one each.

The Cougars did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Cobourg puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Cougars forced the Voyageurs goalie Penta to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Cobourg's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cougars finished with 16 penalty minutes.

Cobourg was led by Liam Grande, who scored the team's only goal. Grande scored 3:11 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Connor Armour picked up the assist.

Kingston incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Cougars' Tyler Lewis stopped 36 shots out of the 38 that he faced.
