Hamilton wins tough contest against Lindsay, 6-5

The Hamilton Red Wings and the Lindsay Muskies were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Hamilton made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-5.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Joseph Mitchell at 11:27 of the third period.

The Red Wings got the win with help from a great game by Mitchell, who had two goals and one assist. Mitchell scored the first of his two goals at 9:07 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Rylee St. Onge picked up the assist. Mitchell's next tally made the score 6-5 Hamilton with 8:33 left in the third period. Hamilton had gotten the advantage when Lindsay's Sean McLaren was sent off for kneeing. Nicholas Lepone provided the assist.

The Red Wings' goal total was higher than their season average. Hamilton averages 3.5 goals per game. The Red Wings' penalty kill unit could not stop the Muskies' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

Hamilton also got points from Josh LaFrance, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Laine McKay, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points, and Lepone, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Hamilton received assists from Otis Goldman and Ryan Punkari, who contributed one each and Lucas Condotta and Carl Greco, who each chipped in two.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Lindsay was helped by Brandon Washer, who registered two goals and one assist. Washer scored the first of his two goals at 2:17 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Hamilton. Stuart Fierheller picked up the assist. Washer's next tally made the score 4-3 Hamilton with 3:09 left in the second period. A tripping penalty on Greco had put the Muskies on the power play. Austin Eastman provided the assist. Lindsay additionally got points from Eastman, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Lindsay also had goals scored by Keegan Cairns and Matt Tustin, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Lindsay were James Allen and Owen Barnett, who contributed one each and Joseph Vocino and Logan DeNoble, who each chipped in two.

Jordan Cartney recorded 18 saves for Hamilton. The Red Wings incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Lindsay's Brett Chandler stopped 24 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Muskies incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
