Aurora squeaks by Newmarket, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Aurora Tigers escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Drake Board's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Aurora was led by Board, who finished with one goal and one assist. Board scored 10:07 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Aurora. Sam Quaranta picked up the assist.

The Tigers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Aurora's offense rang up 39 shots on Newmarket's net. The Tigers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Aurora finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Aurora also had goals scored by Keaton Ratcliffe, Liam Neuman, and Nicholas Erb, who each put in one. In addition, Aurora received assists from Eric Williams, who had three and Noah Delmas, Taylor Joseph, and Vince Figliomeni, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes were helped by Jonathan Colley, who tallied one goal. Colley scored short handed 14:59 into the second period to make the score 2-2. A tripping call on Christian Cella put Newmarket on the penalty kill. Sam Hu provided the assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Cameron Nicoll as well. More assists for Newmarket came via Curtis Harvey and Brett Thomson, who contributed one each.

The Tigers' Andy Munroe stopped 14 shots out of the 16 that he faced. Aurora registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Tyler Richardson recorded 35 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
