Cobourg's Hogg deadly on offense in 5-1 win against Whitby

The Cobourg Cougars relied on the scoring touch of Connor Hogg, who netted two goals, to beat the Whitby Fury, 5-1.

Hogg scored at 13:55 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg and again while on the power play 19:23 into the second to make the score 3-1 Cobourg.

Cobourg's Stefano Durante was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 36 saves and let only one puck past him. Durante certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.72 entering the contest.

The Cougars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Whitby was unable to stop Cobourg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Cobourg also got points from Dawson Theede, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Alex Riche, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Cobourg also got a goal from Liam Grande as well. More assists for Cobourg came via Taylor Gauld, who had two and Matt Watson, Jacob Friend, Sam Dunn, and Riley Stillman, who each chipped in one.

The Fury managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Whitby ended up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Fury were held below their usual level of production. Whitby averages 3.8 goals per game. The Fury's offense rang up 37 shots on Cobourg's net.

Whitby was led by Nik Coric, who scored the team's only goal. Coric scored 3:16 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Stefan von Engelbrechten picked up the assist.

The Cougars incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Austin Cain rejected 28 shots on goal for the Fury.
