Cobourg completes comeback, beats Milton, 4-3

The Cobourg Cougars climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Milton Icehawks, 4-3.

Cobourg let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Cougars took a 3-2 advantage on a goal by Sam Dunn at 11:26 in the second period. Cobourg went down 2-0 after Milton's Johnathon Schaefer put the puck home at 7:12 in the first period. After tying things up at 3-3 on a goal by Chris Poletek at 5:49 in the third, the Cougars got the game-winner from Alex Riche at 9:19 in the third period.

Cobourg was led by Riche, who registered one goal.

The Cougars forced the Icehawks goalie Scott Smith to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots.

Cobourg additionally got points from Liam Grande, who also had one goal and one assist. Connor Hogg also scored for Cobourg. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Dawson Theede, who had two and Rylee McKinnon, Spencer Holt, Matt Carroll, Connor Armour, and Taylor Gauld, who each chipped in one.

Milton was helped by Sean Robertson, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Robertson scored 5:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Milton. Poletek picked up the assist. Milton also got points from Poletek, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Milton received assists from Anthony Baxter, Tyler Biles, Lucas Martellacci, and Brendan Doherty, who contributed one each.

Tyler Lewis made 22 saves for Cobourg on 25 shots. The Cougars incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Smith recorded 42 saves for the Icehawks. Milton incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
