The Newmarket Hurricanes' Sam Hu scored 25 seconds into overtime to beat the Pickering Panthers, 4-3 (OT). Newmarket was led by Hu, who racked up one goal and one assist. Pickering was unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Newmarket eventually piled up 53 shots on goal. Newmarket also had goals scored by Dallas Baird, Jonathan Colley, and Joseph Mizzi, who scored one goal each. More assists for Newmarket came via Anthony Salemi, who had two and Mitchell Duggan, Cameron Nicoll, and Christian Cella, who contributed one each. The Panthers stifled the Hurricanes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pickering's offense rang up 31 shots on Newmarket's net. The Panthers were helped by Chris Sekelyk, who registered one goal. Sekelyk scored 6:07 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jordan Oshowy assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Pickering included Cam Palmer and John Hudgin, who each put in one. In addition, Pickering received assists from Doug Carter, Andrew Breda, and Justin Bennett, who each chipped in one. Connor Ryckman made 28 saves for the Hurricanes on 31 shots. Newmarket incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Austin Washkurak recorded 49 saves for Pickering. The Panthers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. |
