Milton wins tough contest against Hamilton, 5-3

The Milton Icehawks gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Hamilton Red Wings.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Sean Perichak at 5:08 of the third period.

With four goals and two assists between them, Sean Robertson and Chris Poletek teamed up to power Milton's offense. Robertson registered two goals and one assist and Poletek also notched two goals and one assist.

The Icehawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Hamilton power plays. Milton forced Hamilton goalie Jordan Cartney to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. The Icehawks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Milton averages 2.5 goals per game.

Milton also got points from Poletek, who also tallied two goals and one assist. In addition, Milton received assists from Anthony Baxter, Ryan Taylor, Brendan Doherty, and Chris Cobham, who contributed one each.

The Red Wings kept the Icehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Scott Smith made 39 saves on 42 shots.

Hamilton was led by Nicholas Lepone, who grabbed two goals. Lepone scored the first of his two goals at 18:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hamilton. Joseph Mitchell picked up the assist. Lepone's next tally made the score 3-2 Hamilton with 9:50 left in the second period. Carl Greco assisted on the tally. Rylee St. Onge also scored for Hamilton. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Josh LaFrance, who had one.

Milton incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Icehawks, Cobham was ejected from the game. The Red Wings' Cartney stopped 30 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Hamilton incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
