Trenton blows out Wellington, 5-1

The Trenton Golden Hawks were firing on all cylinders against the Wellington Dukes, and when the final buzzer sounded Golden Hawks emerged with a 5-1 win.

Trenton was led by goalie Riley Brown, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. Brown certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.96 entering the contest.

The Golden Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Trenton gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Golden Hawks stifled Wellington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Trenton's offense rang up 36 shots on the Dukes' net.

The Golden Hawks were helped by Loren Ulett, who registered one goal. Ulett scored 17:37 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Trenton. Blayne Oliver provided the assist. Trenton also got points from Zach de Concilys, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Brady Wiffen, who also had one goal and one assist. Ty Jackson also scored for Trenton. More assists for Trenton came via Liam Morgan and Robert Smythe, who each chipped in one and Kevin Lavoie and Chrisitian Lloyd, who contributed two each.

Wellington could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Dukes average 3.2 goals per game. Wellington forced Trenton goalie Brown to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Dukes' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to the Golden Hawks' power play unit.

Trenton incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Wellington's Olivier Lafreniere stopped 31 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Dukes incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
