Orangeville survives Pickering comeback, wins 5-3

The Orangeville Flyers, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Pickering Panthers and clinched a 5-3 victory.

Orangeville led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Flyers' James McLaughlin scored at 3:08 in the second period to put Orangeville up 4-1.

The Flyers' offense rang up 40 shots on Pickering's net.

Orangeville also got points from Aleks Rapp, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Orangeville included Darren Nesbitt and Devon Gillham, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Matthew Barnes, who had three and John DiLorenzo, Colin Rigney, Connor Stack, Ryan Anton, Ryan DaSilva, and Lucas Smilsky, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Pickering kept Orangeville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Wyatt Pickrell made 41 saves on 44 shots.

The Panthers were led by Riley Devine, who had one goal and two assists. Devine scored on the power play 8:42 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Orangeville. Pickering had taken the advantage when the Flyers' Derek Topatigh got sent off for tripping. Daniel Butchart provided the assist. Pickering also had goals scored by BJ Salerno and Blake Coffey, who each put in one. More assists for Pickering came via Kyler Challis, Aidan Parker, and John Hudgin, who contributed one each.

Orangeville incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Eric Pitcher recorded 35 saves for the Panthers. Pickering incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
