Huge game by Spear boosts Lindsay over Newmarket, 9-4

The Lindsay Muskies' Brock Spear had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 9-4 win over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Spear found the back of the net 3:07 into the second period to make the score 5-2 Lindsay and again while 7:41 into the second to make the score 7-2 Lindsay.

Lindsay forced Newmarket's netminders to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots and forcing 32 saves. Connor Ryckman made 31 stops and Tyler Richardson made one. The Muskies found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Lindsay has scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. The Muskies had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 11 chances. The defensemen of Lindsay were also effective in the Hurricanes' zone, and came away with three goals. The Muskies struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 55 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

Lindsay also got points from Brandon Washer, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Jack Scanlan, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Lindsay included Stuart Fierheller, John Macdonald, Matthew Marchese, and Logan DeNoble, who scored one goal each. In addition, Lindsay received assists from Kristopher Diclemente, Mathew Lewis, Austin Eastman, Cole Langfield, Cameron Stajer, and Jeff Wilson, who contributed one each and Joseph Vocino and Keegan Cairns, who each chipped in two.

Newmarket kept Lindsay's goalie busy throughout the game, and Boyd Diclemente made 32 saves on 36 shots. The Hurricanes' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Newmarket finished with 70 penalty minutes.

The Hurricanes were helped by Anthony Salemi, who registered one goal. Salemi scored on the power play 14:19 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A tripping penalty on Lewis had put Newmarket on the power play. Sam Hu picked up the assist. Newmarket additionally got points from Hu, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Christian Dedonato, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Christian Cella as well. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Dallas Baird, who had two and Adam Smith, Curtis Harvey, Cameron Nicoll, and Joseph Mizzi, who contributed one each.

For the Muskies, DeNoble was ejected from the game. The Hurricanes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan McReynolds was ejected from the game.
