Georgetown holds on for 6-5 win against Burlington

The Burlington Cougars tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Georgetown Raiders would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-5.

A goal by Jordan Brown put Georgetown up 5-3 in the second period, but Burlington pulled to within one on Willy Paul's tally 5:59 into the third period.

With three goals and three assists between them, Steve Hladin and John Adams teamed up to power the Raiders' offense. Hladin racked up two goals and one assist and Adams also notched one goal and two assists.

Georgetown's offense rang up 36 shots on the Cougars' net. The Raiders surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Georgetown averages 3.8 goals per contest. The Raiders' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Georgetown averages 2.2 goals allowed per game. The Raiders was effective with a man advantage, and put in four goals while on the power play. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Georgetown could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Georgetown also got points from Adams, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Georgetown also had goals scored by Jake Clements and Josh Dickinson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Georgetown were Anthony Marra, who had three, Gavin Shantz and Richard Court, who each chipped in one, and Eric Eustace and Liam Clare, who contributed two each.

Burlington found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Cougars average 2.8 goals per game. The defensemen of Burlington were also effective in the Raiders' zone, and came away with three goals.

The Cougars were led by Spencer Herbst, who had two goals and two assists. Herbst scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:44 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Burlington. A slashing penalty on Clare had put Burlington on the power play. Daniel Volpe picked up the assist. Herbst's next tally on the power play made the score 5-5 with 8:42 left in the third period. David Thomson assisted on the tally. Burlington additionally got points from Thomson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Burlington also got a goal from Ben Scheel as well. In addition, Burlington received assists from Nicholas Holt, who had two and Michael Alberga and Louis Vlahakis, who each chipped in one.

Marc Williams rejected 23 shots on goal for Georgetown. Andrew Lee recorded 30 saves for the Cougars. Burlington incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
