Wiffen lifts Trenton over Kingston, 5-1

The Trenton Golden Hawks relied on the scoring touch of Brady Wiffen, who netted two goals, to beat the Kingston Voyageurs, 5-1.

Wiffen scored at 8:51 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 12:19 into the second to make the score 3-1 Trenton.

Kingston was stymied by Trenton's netminder Justin Kapelmaster, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. The solid play of Kapelmaster will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.15.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:54 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Golden Hawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and three majors for 25 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Trenton had been spending in the box. The Golden Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Kingston power plays. Trenton's offense rang up 42 shots on the Voyageurs' net.

Trenton additionally got points from Tyler Donaldson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Chrisitian Lloyd, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Trenton also got a goal from Christian DiFelice as well. More assists for Trenton came via Hunter Fargey, who had two.

Kingston's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and three majors for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Voyageurs surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Kingston stifled the Golden Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Voyageurs were held below their usual level of production. Kingston puts an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game. The Voyageurs' offense rang up 32 shots on Trenton's net.

Kingston was led by Cole Bolton, who scored the team's only goal. Bolton scored 2:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kingston. Alex Stothart provided the assist.

The Golden Hawks registered zero goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Loren Ulett, Braedyn Asselstine, and Matt Pizzo were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Voyageurs' Daniel Urbani stopped 37 shots out of the 42 that he faced. For Kingston, Blake ONeill, Zachary Emelifeonwu, and Jaylon Gorman were ejected from the contest.
