Orangeville sunk by penalties, falls to Cobourg 6-3

The Orangeville Flyers lost to the Cobourg Cougars, as their penalty kill allowed Cobourg to score four goals with a man advantage.

Orangeville was unable to stop the Cougars from sending pucks towards the net, and Cobourg eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. The Cougars outdid their season average for goals scored. Cobourg averages 3.4 goals per game.

The Cougars were helped by Mitchell Gibson, who racked up one goal and two assists. Gibson scored on the power play 10:10 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cobourg. An interference penalty on Connor Stack had put Cobourg on the power play. Alex Riche picked up the assist. Cobourg additionally got points from Matthew Watson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Cobourg also had goals scored by Dawson Theede, who had two and Taylor Gauld and Theo Lewis, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Connor Armour, who had three and Liam Grande and Connor Hogg, who contributed two each.

The Flyers kept the Cougars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Lewis made 34 saves on 37 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Orangeville was led by Ryan DaSilva, who tallied two goals and one assist. DaSilva scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:35 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cobourg. The Flyers had gained a power play chance when Austin Veleke was whistled for interference. Kosta Likourezos provided the assist. DaSilva's next tally on the power play made the score 6-3 Cobourg with 2:21 left in the third period. Orangeville had taken the advantage when Cobourg's Rylee McKinnon got sent off for abuse of officials. James McLaughlin picked up the assist. Ryan Anton also scored for Orangeville. More assists for Orangeville came via Daniel DeRose and Darren Nesbitt, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Flyers' Jake Lawr stopped 33 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Orangeville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Flyers, John DiLorenzo was ejected from the game.
