Wiffen's goals lift Trenton to 5-1 victory over Mississauga

Behind a great game by Brady Wiffen, who had two goals, the Trenton Golden Hawks defeated the Mississauga Chargers, 5-1.

Wiffen scored on the power play at 13:47 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Trenton and again while 16:13 into the second to make the score 5-0 Trenton.

Trenton's penalty kill excelled, as the Golden Hawks gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Trenton forced Mississauga's goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Alex Lepore made 14 stops and Mitchell Heck made 14. The Golden Hawks stifled the Chargers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Trenton additionally got points from Bobby Polachek, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Trenton also had goals scored by Christian DiFelice and Nick Santoro, who each put in one. In addition, Trenton received assists from Kevin Lavoie, Loren Ulett, and Chrisitian Lloyd, who each chipped in one and Danny Liscio, Zach de Concilys, and Braden Hellems, who contributed two each.

Mississauga's offense operated below its season average. The Chargers put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. Mississauga excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing Trenton to get one power play goal on 11 chances.

The Chargers were led by Thomas Lattavo, who scored the team's only goal. Lattavo scored 16:16 into the third period to make the score 5-1 Trenton. Nicholas Palumbo provided the assist.

The Golden Hawks' Justin Kapelmaster stopped 20 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Trenton incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Mississauga incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. For the Chargers, Austin Galli was ejected from the game.
