Burlington downs Stouffville in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Stouffville Arena Sat, Jan 10, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Burlington Cougars pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Stouffville Spirit on a clutch goal by David Kiss. Burlington came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cougars fell behind 2-0 after a power play goal by Stouffville's Nick Thomakos at 3:37 in the second period. Burlington knotted things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Daniel Volpe at 17:07 in the third period. The Cougars were led by Kiss, who tallied one goal. Kiss scored 2:07 into to make the score 3-2 Burlington. Wyatt Trainer assisted on the tally. The Spirit were unable to stop Burlington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Burlington cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring two goals on three chances. Burlington also got points from Volpe, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Burlington also got a goal from David Thomson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were Willy Paul, who had two and Nicholas Holt and Jack Jeffers, who contributed one each. Stouffville's offense rang up 45 shots on the Cougars' net. Tyson Bruce also scored for Stouffville. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Matthew Dunlop, who had one and Chad Burrows, who had two. Andrew Lee rejected 43 shots on goal for Burlington. The Cougars incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Conor McCollum recorded 31 saves for the Spirit. Stouffville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
