Wiffen's goals lift Trenton to 6-3 victory over WhitbyDuncan Memorial Fri, Jan 09, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Brady Wiffen had two goals to lead the Trenton Golden Hawks to a 6-3 victory over the Whitby Fury. Wiffen scored short handed at 17:04 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Trenton and again while 5:38 into the second to make the score 4-3 Trenton.Trenton's penalty kill excelled, as the Golden Hawks gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. The defensemen of Trenton were also effective in Whitby's zone, and came away with two goals. The Golden Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game. Trenton also had goals scored by Liam Morgan, Kevin Lavoie, Matt Pizzo, and Luke Hincenbergs, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Loren Ulett, Michael Siddall, Chrisitian Lloyd, and Braden Hellems, who each chipped in one and Christian DiFelice and Robert Smythe, who contributed two each. The Fury's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Trenton power plays. Whitby forced Trenton goalie Justin Kapelmaster to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Fury could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game. Whitby was helped by Nik Coric, who registered two goals. Coric scored the first of his two goals at 2:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Stefan von Engelbrechten picked up the assist. Coric's next tally made the score 3-3 with 19:34 left in the second period. Zach Viminitz provided the assist. Whitby also got points from von Engelbrechten, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Whitby received assists from Ryan Kirkup and Jonathan OHara, who each chipped in two. Justin Kapelmaster made 28 saves for the Golden Hawks on 31 shots. The Fury's starting goalie, Austin Cain, made 10 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Blake Shaw, who stopped 10 shots.
