Oakville falls to Whitby after surprising comebackIroquois - Rink#1 Sun, Jan 04, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Whitby Fury battled back to claim a 4-3 victory over the Oakville Blades. Whitby never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Fury was down 3-1 after a power play goal by Oakville's Matt Lippa at 1:27 in the third period. Whitby tied things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Stefan von Engelbrechten at 15:32 in the third period. The Fury scored the game winner on the power play at 17:20 in the third period on a goal by von Engelbrechten. Matt Fischer had a great game for Whitby, netting two goals. The Fury forced the Blades goalie Brendan McGlynn to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Whitby also got a goal from Luke Keenan as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Jeremy Wu, who had three and Zack Elson, Jonathan OHara, Ryan Erickson, Kevin Dimagno, and Nik Coric, who contributed one each. Oakville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 48 penalty minutes. Brandon Hughes also scored for Oakville. More assists for Oakville came via Greg Campbell, Christian Rajic, Josh Kosack, and Ross Sloan, who each chipped in one. Austin Cain recorded 23 saves for Whitby. The Fury incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Whitby ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Scott Kirton was ejected from the game. Brendan McGlynn made 27 saves for the Blades on 31 shots. Oakville registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Blades, Kamil Tkaczuk was ejected from the game.
