Pickering blows out Burlington, 10-3

The Pickering Panthers had a six-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 10-3 win over the Burlington Cougars.

Pickering got the win thanks to a great game by Austin Ulett, who had two goals and three assists. Ulett scored the first of his two goals at 13:11 into the second period to make the score 6-1 Pickering. Ulett's next tally made the score 8-2 Pickering with 1:03 left in the second period. Daniel Butchart assisted on the tally.

The Panthers forced Burlington's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 44 shots and forcing 34 saves. Joe Noonan made 14 stops and Cammeron Radford made 20. Pickering surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Panthers average 3.5 goals per game. Pickering took advantage of the Cougars' penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities.

Pickering additionally got points from Dalton Lawrence, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Justin Bennett, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Pickering included BJ Salerno, who had two and John Hudgin, Mitch Emerson, and Mark Tenuta, who each put in one. In addition, Pickering received assists from Chris Sekelyk, who had three and Kyler Challis and Daniel Barnes, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers were unable to stop Burlington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Burlington was led by Jack Jeffers, who registered one goal and one assist. Jeffers scored 7:52 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Pickering. David Thomson provided the assist. Burlington also had goals scored by Willy Paul and Ben Scheel, who scored one goal each. More assists for Burlington came via Kyle West, James Thorpe, and Dante Felicetti, who contributed one each.

Eric Pitcher made 28 saves for Pickering on 31 shots. The Panthers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Cougars incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
