Cobourg wins tough contest against Stouffville, 4-2

The game between the Cobourg Cougars and the Stouffville Spirit was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Cobourg emerged with a 4-2 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Alex Riche secured the win for the Cougars with a goal in the second period.

Cobourg got the win thanks to a great game by Taylor Gauld, who had two goals and one assist. Gauld scored the first of his two goals at 1:42 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cobourg. Dawson Theede assisted on the tally. Gauld's next tally made the score 4-2 Cobourg with 40 seconds left in the third period. Theo Lewis picked up the assist.

The Cougars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Stouffville power plays. Cobourg forced Stouffville goalie Aaron Taylor to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Cobourg additionally got points from Theede, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Mitchell Gibson, Connor Hogg, and Connor Armour, who contributed one each.

The Spirit were helped by Joseph Deveny, who grabbed one goal. Deveny scored 6:19 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cobourg. Alex Gilmour assisted on the tally. Tyson Bruce also scored for Stouffville. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Spencer Roberts, Christopher Brill-Morgan, and James Mense-Dietrich, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars' Stefano Durante stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Cobourg incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Aaron Taylor made 27 saves for Stouffville on 30 shots. The Spirit incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. For Stouffville, Bruce was ejected from the game.
