Huge game by Grande boosts Cobourg over Wellington, 7-0Cobourg Community Centre Mon, Dec 15, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cobourg Cougars' Liam Grande had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 7-0 win over the Wellington Dukes. Grande scored at 8:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cobourg and again while 18:35 into the first to make the score 2-0 Cobourg.Stefano Durante spearheaded the defensive effort for Cobourg, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 38 saves for the shutout. Durante managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.76 prior to the game. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:55 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Cougars forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Cobourg had been averaging 14.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Cougars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Cobourg's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Cougars allow 2.4 goals per game. Cobourg forced Wellington goalie Olivier Lafreniere to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Cougars bested their season scoring average. Cobourg has scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign.
