Cobourg rides Lewis to victory over Whitby, 3-1

Tyler Lewis stood on his head and made 26 saves to lead the Cobourg Cougars to a 3-1 victory over the Whitby Fury.

Cobourg was sparked by Mitchell Gibson, who finished with one goal and one assist. Gibson scored 15:10 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg. Rylee McKinnon provided the assist.

The Cougars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Cobourg's offense rang up 35 shots on Whitby's net.

Cobourg also had goals scored by Spencer Holt and Cole Langan, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Taylor Gauld, who had one and Alex Riche, who had two.

The Fury managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Whitby wound up below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Fury's offense operated below their season average. Whitby puts an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game.

The Fury were led by Justin Brand, who scored the team's only goal. Brand scored 3:15 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Stefan von Engelbrechten picked up the assist.

The Cougars incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Whitby's Tyler Feaver stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced.
