Huge game by Gilmour boosts Stouffville over Pickering, 5-1

The Stouffville Spirit's Alex Gilmour had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 5-1 win over the Pickering Panthers.

Gilmour scored 8:34 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Stouffville. Matthew Heffernan picked up the assist. Gilmour dished an assist on Brodie Tutton's goal that made the score 3-1 Stouffville at 13:18 into the third period. He added another helper on Tyson Bruce's goal that made the score 4-1 Stouffville at 13:54 into the third period.

Stouffville was led by goalie Conor McCollum, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. McCollum managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.29 prior to the game.

The Spirit pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes.

Stouffville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Pickering power plays. The Spirit forced Pickering goalie Austin Washkurak to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

Stouffville additionally got points from Tutton, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Bruce, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Joseph Deveny, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Stouffville also got a goal from Christopher Brill-Morgan as well. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Robert Clark, who had two.

The Panthers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Pickering averages 3.4 goals per game. The Panthers' offense rang up 36 shots on Stouffville's net.

Pickering was led by Tiger McDonald, who scored the team's only goal. McDonald scored 7:29 into the third period to make the score 1-1. BJ Salerno provided the assist.

The Spirit registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Stouffville, Michael Giacometti was ejected from the game. Washkurak rejected 39 shots on goal for the Panthers. Pickering incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
