Georgetown outlasts Burlington, 5-3

The Georgetown Raiders gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Burlington Cougars.

Georgetown gained the winning advantage on a goal by Anthony Marra 2:06 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Brendan Jacome had a great game for the Raiders, netting two goals. Jacome scored at 13:39 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 17:51 into the first to make the score 2-2.

Georgetown also got points from Steve Hladin, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Marra, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Georgetown received assists from Jake Clements, Scott Emerson, Richard Court, John Adams, and Blake Jones, who contributed one each.

Burlington managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Cougars ended up below its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game.

Burlington was helped by Jacob Ovens, who grabbed one goal. Ovens scored 3:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. James Thorpe assisted on the tally. Burlington also had goals scored by Willy Paul and Chris Cudek, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were Steve Mariani, Kyle West, Ben Scheel, and Santino Tonigussi, who each chipped in one.

Jack LaFontaine recorded 25 saves for Georgetown. The Raiders incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Joe Noonan made 23 saves for the Cougars on 28 shots. Burlington registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
