Stouffville holds on for 4-2 win against Lindsay

The Lindsay Muskies tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Stouffville Spirit would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

A goal by Chad Burrows put Stouffville up 4-1 in the second period, but Lindsay pulled to within two on James Allen's tally 10:10 into the third period.

Burrows was all over the ice for the Spirit, as he tallied two goals in the win.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:19 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Stouffville was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game the Spirit had been spending in the box. Stouffville forced the Muskies goalie Brett Chandler to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Stouffville also had goals scored by Michael Giacometti and Joseph Deveny, who each put in one. More assists for Stouffville came via Christopher Brill-Morgan, who had two and Matthew Heffernan, Brodie Tutton, and Alex Gilmour, who each chipped in one.

Lindsay's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Muskies had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Lindsay's offense rang up 39 shots on the Spirit's net.

The Muskies were helped by Stuart Fierheller, who finished with one goal. Fierheller scored 5:31 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Joseph Vocino picked up the assist.

Conor McCollum recorded 37 saves for Stouffville. The Spirit registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For Stouffville, Jordan Nesbitt and Spencer Roberts were ejected from the contest. Brett Chandler made 37 saves for Lindsay on 41 shots. The Muskies registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Lindsay ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kristopher Diclemente was ejected from the game.
