Whitby beats Wellington 4-3 after comeback scare

The Wellington Dukes tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Whitby Fury held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Stefan von Engelbrechten put Whitby up 4-2 in the third period, but Wellington pulled to within one on Will Cook's tally 13:18 into the third period.

Von Engelbrechten had a great game for the Fury, netting two goals.

Whitby additionally got points from Nicholas Lepone, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Nik Coric as well. More assists for Whitby came via Austin Fischer, Jeremy Wu, and Davis Kuksis, who each chipped in one and Ryan Kirkup and Jonathan OHara, who contributed two each.

The Dukes forced Whitby goalie Tyler Feaver to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Wellington was helped by Marco Azzano, who finished with one goal. Azzano scored 8:11 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Whitby. Josh Supryka provided the assist. Brody Morris also scored for Wellington. In addition, Wellington received assists from Abbott Girduckis, who had two and Luc Brown, Jacob Panetta, and Joe McKeown, who each chipped in one.

Feaver rejected 30 shots on goal for the Fury. Whitby incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Taylor Welsh made 21 saves for the Dukes on 25 shots. Wellington incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
